Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals:
- The Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals is continuing the process of debating goals, targets and indicators for the future development framework. Between 22 and 24 May, the OWG discussed issues including food security and nutrition, sustainable agriculture, desertification and drought, water and sanitation. At the OWG’s next session, to be held over 17-19 June, the topic of population dynamics (including migration) will be under consideration. This will be the first and only opportunity for the OWG to consider migration as an issue.
- In preparation for the June meeting, IOM has co-authored a think piece on population dynamics together with UNFPA, DESA and UN Habitat, and has contributed to the think pieces on decent work and health, amongst others.
- On 30 May 2013, the High-level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda delivered its final report to the Secretary-General. This report is intended to inform the Secretary-General’s own report on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, which is expected to be released to Member States in September 2014. While the HLP report contains only a few specific references to international migration, many of its recommendations are likely to be relevant to IOM’s Post-2015 objectives, notably the HLP’s promotion of a global partnership for development.
